Website Promotion, RSS And Squidoo - How To Create an RSS Feed For Your Squidoo Lens

Squidoo has really made a splash on the SEO scene. As people have uncovered the remarkable Google rankings that have shown up for their squidoo pages (called "lenses"). The site has quickly become a web site promotion tool of choice.

Before we jump into how RSS can (and can't) work with Squidoo, let's examine a bit more about RSS.

What are feeds and how can I create an RSS file for my website?

RSS stands most commonly for "Really Simple Syndication", and is a file format that is incorporated by users in their websites to allow for web syndication, making their web content available to feed readers or syndication services.

People who want to keep updated of recently added content on a particular site or topic of interest will subscribe to a feed reader which "spits out" a short title, description and link to the most recently added content. How does this occur? You create an RSS file for your website and submit it to syndication services that will crawl your RSS file and display your added content items to it's feed. The more subscribers to your feed, the more links and traffic you'll see at your website. So you see how RSS is great website promotion tool especially if you're frequently adding valuable content, news or press releases.

How do you know if a website is syndicated?

Websites that contain RSS ' typically have colorful graphics to indicate to users that the specific web content is available through RSS feeds. These graphics are usually depicted by orange rectangles that are usually marked with 'RSS' or 'XML'.

Here is in example RSS file:

Notes -

  • The "channel" is the feed.
  • The "items" are the individual pieces of content /pages you want to syndicate.
  • Don't put spaces in between your tags as below.

Now open up note pad, or another simple text editor...copy and paste this document, filling in your own info. Remember to remove excess spaces in this template.

< ?xml version="1.0" ? >

< rss version ="2.0">

< channel >

< title >The Channel Title Goes Here< / title >

< description > The explanation of how the items are related goes here< / description >

http://www. directoryoflinksgohere< / link>

< item >

< title >The Title Goes Here

< description >The description goes here< /description >

< link >http://www. linkgoeshere.com

< / item>

< item >

< title >The Title Goes Here

< description >The description goes here< /description >

< link >http://www. linkgoeshere.com

< / item>

< / channel >

< /r ss >

When you save the file be sure to save it as an xml file.

Next, you'll want to validate your feed to make sure it's readable, and to submit it to feed reader websites so that the content syndication can begin.

RSS and Squidoo

There are two primary ways to leverage RSS for your lens.

1. Subscribing to feeds to flesh out your content

Squidoo offers a module that allows you to display your feed snippets related to the topic of your lens. This is a great way to continually increase the variation and volume of your lens content. If you look at all the top lenses, many have RSS modules. Know that in order for your lens to show up on Squidoo you have to have added at least 3 blocks of content, which tells us that content is an important criterion for Squidoo ranking. Where do you find RSS feeds for your Squidoo lens?" Any blog or website that has a feed will indicate this by the orange rectangle describe above. Just subscribe and read up on the RSS module in the "add modules" section of your lens workshop. (For more advanced Squidooers, RSS feeds are dynamically generated in a visitor's browser. These feeds won't convince Google that your lens frequently updates it's content.)

2. Syndicating / Creating a Feed For Your Squidoo Lens

Normally a feed for your website would live in your websites directory, I.e; www.yoursite. com/feed.rss. This method isn't possible with Squidoo, but fortunately there is a work around. http://squidutils.com/ offers many advanced utilities for lens masters, including feed url generation. Simply input your Squidoo user name, and a feed for your lens will automatically be created with a URL. Now you can hit all of the rss search engines and start submitting your feed!

Keywords in the Age of LSI - Act Natural

When processing queries, search engines like Google dont just look for documents containing the specific query typed in. They look for pages that are relevant. Once, that might have meant pulling up websites that contained a large number of the exact phrase used in the search. But now, with all the commercial websites vying to be top of the list for certain search terms, Google has to sort through these sites to determine who really deserves to be on top-and who doesnt.

Latent Semantic Indexing is the process by which Google sorts sites not based on the frequency of a certain term, but on the frequency of a cloud of terms and phrases that are linked together. Your web copy, while it should include your keyword, should never focus entirely on that single word or phrase. If it does, the algorithm will pinpoint it as being over-optimized. This could result in bad rankings or even penalties. But that doesnt mean you shouldnt use keywords in your copy and site. Here are some ways to do it without looking overdone.

Dont overstuff.

There is no optimal keyword density percentage for good rankings. If your copy is too keyword-dense, the engines will know its overstuffed. So go easy on the keywords. A good rule of thumb: read the copy aloud. If any of the keywords stand out, sound stilted, or are noticeable in any way, they probably shouldnt be there.

Dont worry about placement.

Some people worry about the placement of keywords in their body copy. They might think they have to have one keyword in the first paragraph, three in the second, and two in the thirdevery time. But there are no requirements for placement of keywords in your body. Placing them where they sound natural will serve you better than trying to figure out where to place them paragraph-by-paragraph.

Mix it up.

Say you own a site on baby furniture, and you want to optimize a page for light wood crib set. If you repeat that phrase throughout the copy and dont use similar phrases, youll make your copy sound stiltedand search engines will know what youre doing. Instead, mix that phrase with related phrases the way you would if you were simply writing a traditional article on the topic. Break it up so that phrase isnt always together. Mix up your anchor text, toosearch engines also look at your sites link profile. If your links are too heavy on a certain phrase, you may not rank well.

Use keywords in titles and headings.

Use your primary keyword in your title, and a different related keyword in your subtitleswhere they sound natural. Dont worry too much about keywords in your body copy. Just write, and you will undoubtedly start to use phrases that are associated with your topic.

Think about your title tags.

Your title tags are far more important than your body copy when it comes to keywords. The text in your title tag is whats displayed for your site on search engine results. Each page of your site should have a different title tag. They should contain the keywords youre targetingin the first part of your title. The rest should tell readers exactly what your site is or list the name of your business. A good example for, lets say, a divorce lawyer in Philadelphia would be something like: Philadelphia divorce lawyer: Bob Smith, Esq.

Search engines want to rank pages that dont try to get ranked. The less contrived your site copy looks, the better it will do in the rankings. The key to using keywords successfully is to act natural.

Article Marketing Strategy - How To Increase Your Profits From Articles

Here is an article marketing strategy for you to follow which will outline some techniques you can use immediately and dramatically profit from. If you have been online for some time you are probably aware that article submission or article publishing is one of the most effective and profitable ways top Internet marketers utilize. The reason why is because it works so well.

Writing and distributing articles is my #1 way to drive pre-targeted traffic to my sites. Besides that, search engines love fresh content and what better way than submit articles and to post or archive your articles on your own article directory which you should have implement on your own sites. Better yet, writing and submitting unique content articles rather than submitting the same articles will produce more traffic, back links, and higher rankings. Although this can be difficult and time consuming writing hundreds of versions of unique and different articles, most of the article submission software available can only submit the same article to different article directories. Article Pro Software is one piece of software I can highly recommend that will automatically submit unique articles saving you valuable time. It is not an article spinner or content creator that submits gibberish. You write the articles and it does the rest.

Sometimes writing articles can be intimidating and you may feel that this is really not your cup of tea. One option is to buy PLR or Private Label Write articles or have ghostwriters write articles for you. Both are fee related services. From my experience PLR articles can be a great source of content for your website to build content and feed those hungry search bots looking for fresh edible content. There is one catch to these articles, which I will cover next.

If you do decide to go the PLR route, it is highly recommended that you go through and alter them or modify them in such a manner that they do not read the same as the original article. Keep in mind that these PLR article are being bought by many other would be "content seekers" so you need to make them different or else you will be submitting duplicate content. If you have been following my blog and articles you will know the suffering that follows.

The major keys to profiting from article submissions are to write articles filled with useful information and are of great quality. Adding your resource box to the end of your article is where you develop your traffic and back links. A simple, catchy one-line phrase will do the trick. For example "Click here for the latest hot article marketing strategies! http://www.yourwebsite.com" should do the trick. Do not overlook trying a few longer resource boxes; say 4 to 5 sentences long. I have had great success with those as well.

Before publishing your articles, be sure and do a spell and grammar check on them. It does not convey professionalism when your articles are loaded with spelling and grammar errors. Some of the major have a spell check already built in, but I usually draft my articles in notepad and then copy and paste into Word where I can run a check on them before submitting. This is somewhat of an extra step, but a valuable one that does not take long to complete. Not only that, but you can learn a lot form going through the spell checks yourself.

Publishing your articles to the top ranking article directories and to your own Website or Blog are two great ways to get your articles exposed on the Internet. If you do not have a blog yet you may want to look into it. They are usually free and can serve as another Website for your own self-promotion. As previously mentioned, unique content articles are a major advantage over your competition. Article Pro Software can create unique articles for you to distribute not only to it's internal list, but you can also use those unique articles to copy and paste into the major high ranking article directories e.g. Ezine Articles, Isnare, and Go Articles which require manual submission.

In closing, article writing and submissions is a great article marketing strategy that can yield huge profits if done correctly. There are other important factors that also contribute to article success which I will cover in future articles, but if you follow this article marketing strategy you will be ahead of your competition separating you from the field.

Discover 3 Secrets That Will Increase Your Article Page Views

I am sure that if you have been doing article marketing for some time that you have been thinking of how to get more views for your articles. The main reason that you would like to get more views is that this will mean that more people will click on your web site in your bio.

I am going to share with you one of the biggest secrets of article marketing that will help to get your articles seen by more visitors. When I first started doing article marketing I wrote a lot of articles and very few of them got many page views. Then I started doing keyword research and this got me a lot more visitors.

There are three main tools that you can use. The first is the Overture tool. This is free and will help you with your keyword research efforts. However, the results are skewed because it is a pay per click search engine. You can also use the Wordtracker tool - I use the free trial option which should be sufficient. Finally, you can use the Google Adwords keyword suggestion tool that will give accurate results since Google is the largest search engine in the world.

The trick is that you need to find keywords that have very little competition. This can sometimes be time intensive, but is well worth your efforts. You then need to include the keywords in your title and body.

The second technique that you can do is that you need to write a lot more articles. By writing more articles consequently you will attract more visitors.

Finally once you have more visitors you will find readers that like your style of writing. So when they see your name on an article they are more likely to read it.
